SMUT – THE MOVIE

Inside Every Weirdo Lies a Hero

Inspired by a dream visit by his mother, wide-eyed idealist Marty O’Neill (Lee Holmes – Erosion, The Salton Sea) takes to the road on a quest for something that will give his life meaning. When his motorcycle breaks down outside of an adult bookstore in a small middle American town, Marty takes a job in the store to make some cash and get his bike fixed. While struggling to understand the mad methods of Max (Mark Boone Junior – Batman Begins, Memento, 2 Fast 2 Furious), the store’s gruff owner, Marty befriends Elmore (Melvin Van Peebles – Jaws 2, Panther, Sweet Sweetback’s Baad Asss Song), an eccentric old beat poet who frequents the bookstore, and becomes enamored with Mary Jane (Jenette Goldstein – Duplex, X-Men: Next Demension), the cynical stripper who stars in the show’s peep show booth.

Between hours on the job, Marty bonds with Bav (Meredith Scott Lynn – Legally Blonde, A Night At The Roxbury) a tattoo artist and aspiring business guru who’s fascinated by the artful video interviews Marty has collected in his travels. Sensing a business opportunity, Bav transforms transforms screenings of Marty’s videos into the hippest party in town–—catching the attention of Tex Scram (Maxwell Caufield – Grease 2, Empire Records), a charismatically nasty used car dealer who covets the few things left in the town he doesn’t already own, and Mrs. Maplethorpe (new comer – Kirsten Nelson), a conservative house wife who wants to save Marty’s soul. Battle lines are drawn and Marty is surprised to discover the meaning of his quest in one simple question: “What is smut?”
